Low Sulphur Surcharge ... |
| |
Dear customer,
This message is to inform you that, as from Autumn 2007, above surchage amounting to:
Euro.4,== per teu will be applied to all containers (both domestic and quay to quay) carried on BG vessels.
Hereunder you will find a clarification / justification of the cost we will invoice you.
Reason for implementation of "LSS"
The "International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has introduced the Marpol 73/78 annex VI rules that are applicable to us and all other
shipping-lines. The IMO is the organisation that regulates, amongst others, the general rules for protection of the environment at sea
worldwide. On a European level the EC, by means of directive 2005 / 33 / EC, has adopted the "Marpol" rules for ships
to burn fuel oil with less than 1,5 % sulphur as per 11th of August 2007. Directive 2005 / 33 / EC is valid for all ships
that enter the Baltic Sea, North Sea and the English Channel SECAs (SOx Emission Control Areas).
All vessels sailing in that area need to change from "High Sulphur Fuel Oil" to the far more expensive "Low Sulphur Fuel Oil". As the
relatively small vessels operated in the fleet of BG, unlike much larger vessels, do not have the opportunity to switch from "HSFO" to LSFO"
simply because of the absence of sufficient tanks on board, our vessels need to make the full voyages burning "LSFO". It goes without
saying that our cost has increased heavily.
Calculation of "LSS"
It is our believe that, the way we have calculated the "LSS" of Euro 4,== per teu is an open and honest way of calculating. We took the
existing BAF sliding scale as the basis for the following calculation: "LSFO" is about USD 22,== per ton more expensive than a ton of "HSFO".
The BAF scale in place decreases / increases with steps of USD 19,99. Per each step the BAF invoiced to you goes up or down with
Euro 5,== /teu. All this would mean that the "LSS" would amount to Euro 5,==/teu however, in order to reduce the impact towards
our and your customers we kept the "LSS" at an absolute minimum of Euro 4,==/teu. The LSS will be mentioned separately on our invoices.
We trust to have informed you correctly. In case you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the nearest BG office or BG agent.
With kind regards,
BG Freight Line B.V.

BAF increases with Euro.5,==/teu for the 4th quarter 2007 ... |
| |
Dear customer,
Time has come to determine the level of the “Bunker Adjustment Factor” for the 4th quarter of 2007.
As mutually agreed we base ourselves on the average price per ton in US dollars for IFO 180 over the previous quarter
according to BeBeKa.
This message serves to inform you that from 1st June till 20th August 2007 the average price according to the website
of BeBeKa is: USD 379,39 per ton.
According to the slidingscale for the Ireland Service this would have as a result that;
“Bunker Adjustment Factor” for the 4th quarter of 2007 will be Euro 65,00 per TEU.
According to the slidingscale for the Scotland Service this would have as a result that;
“Bunker Adjustment Factor” for the 4th quarter of 2007 will be Euro 45,00 per TEU.
As you will understand, we have no other option then to increase our “Bunker Adjustment Factor” for the 4th quarter of 2007.
We have kept the increase as limited as possible, however, as from 1st October we will have to add Euro 5,00 per TEU to the
present level of BAF as agreed with your esteemed company.
Consequently we herewith kindly request you to amend your records and to add Euro 5,00 to the BAF we have invoiced
you during the 3th quarter of 2007.
For good order’s sake please note that the introduction of the Low Suphur Surcharge as per 1st October 2007, as advised
on 28th August last, is a separate issue and not related to the Bunker Adjustment Factor.
We are sure you will understand that this increase is caused by a variety of influences beyond our control.
Trust to have informed you correctly.
Regards,
BG Freight Line B.V.
